Vision & Mission
“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving” Mother Theresa (1910-1997)
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor… to comfort all who mourn…” (Isa. 61:1 – 2)
The name “FREE TO SERVE” is derived from one of the greatest themes in the Bible – e.g. Gal 5:13; 1 Cor 9:19; Rom 6:22 & 1 Pet 2:16. God saved all His children. He set us free single handedly – not only free to go to heaven – but also to use our freedom to serve God and all His people on earth. We are indeed FREED TO SERVE!
Brief history on the establishment and growth of FTS
The Holy Spirit planted the seed for the birth of FTS in 1989. For 5 years a support group prayed for the fulfillment of this dream. In 1995 FTS started realizing this dream of God in a humble way in India – as God does not want His dreams just to stay dreams! The year 2000 saw the realization of the vision in a South African ministry and since 2005 the work of FTS expanded to Thailand, Burma (Myanmar), Laos & since 2008 also into China.
The Identity of FTS
Vision
Healed and equipped to be “FREE TO SERVE”.
Mission
FTS is a Mission’s Training & Church Planting organization working among the least evangelized peoples of God’s world. As instruments of the Holy Spirit, we train new indigenous believers to become Disciple-makers who will serve their own indigenous communities.
Identity
The name “FREE TO SERVE” reflects one of the most important themes of the Bible. God has made all his children free – not only free from eternal damnation but also FREE TO SERVE God and all His people on earth. Only by His grace we are FREE TO SERVE.
The identity of FTS is planted in the unique and empowering relationships inside the “body of Christ”. God is the heart and the partners of FTS are the hands and arms behind the fingers (missionaries) reaching deep and far to seek the lost and to bring in the harvest.
Focus
FTS focuses on evangelizing and training new believers from the most “unreached” peoples on earth in line with Paul’s strategy as described in Acts 19. Church planting is a natural result of this in the mission fields. FTS trains Disciple makers in small groups to:
- Grow as spiritual mature disciples of Jesus.
- Contextualize the Bible into the context of the specific cultural group.
- Build life sharing and hope creating relationships.
- Serve in joint society-integrated leadership development operations between FTS, the sending churches and the mission churches.
Legal Status of Free to Serve
Free To Serve (FTS) was established in 1994 and is currently registered as a Non Profit Company – NPC.
FTS is managed by a Board of 5 Directors who are elected from a much bigger Board of Members annually.
FTS’ finances are audited by bona fide auditors, BGR Alluvium, Stellenbosch, and presented to the Board of Members & Board of Directors at it’s annual meeting.
FTS functions inter-denominational, inter-culturally as well as internationally.
